Our trip to River Cottage HQ!
What a weekend of adventure at River Cottage HQ Spring Food Fair!
We couldn't resist the temptation of a foodie weekend at Hugh Fearnley-Wittingtall's River Cottage HQ, Axminter and what a beautiful location for a jam-packed programme of music, masterclasses, talks and festival foodie fun! Hugh first brought River Cottage to our screens in 1998 with his ethical food ethos. SInce then his hard hitting campaigns have been changing the eating habits of the nation as well as improving the welfare of our farm animals and sustainablility of our fish.
Upon arrival at River Cottage it was very exciting to experience so many inspiring businesses promoting their organic, vegetarian, vegan and sustainable foods and we were spoilt for choice with beautiful products to try and people to meet, but first.... farm, garden and foraging tours commenced followed by a meet and greet with some fantastic alpacas, pigs, chickens and a sheep sheering experience!
Lunchtime arrived and we were honoured to be able to eat lunch inside River Cottage itself and see the amazing chefs creating dishes with ingredients from the 65 acre organic farm.
After a delicious lunch we had the fantastic opportunity to meet Hugh himself and he was delighted with our gift of award winning Coastal Dukkah as he "loves a bit of Dukkah" and was looking forward to having it on his eggs the next morning!
Next it was time to catch Ben White, manager of Coombe Farm Organic, with an impressive cooking demo over a fire pit. Follwoing was Ross Geach, former head chef at Rick Stein's & now founder of Padstow Kitchen Garden.
It was a fantastic experience meeting and watching some of the country's leading chefs, cooks, food pioneers and cookery writers over the sold-out weekend of absolute foodie fun!
